    HP DVD Writer 740b firmware?

HI I have used imgburn to always update the firmware for my dvd drives but with imgburn the DVD Writer 740b nothing never comes upwith anything,my current firmware is FF24(is this the newest)

I have been having trouble lately with nero and data,it only gets to 1% and then does nothing,i have to reboot the system, these were cheap dvd's and it doesn't happen on all of them but enough to piss me off.I tried verbatim and it is starting on these now

i just recently learned to use imgburn for data and the odd disc it gets to 99% verify and then fails but the disc still seems to be OK

Does this sound like a firmware issue

BTW these dvd's i have had for a while and mostly only use TY02 from blankmedia.ca

    thanks

if the drive is still on warranty I would make a phone call

kind of funny how LG can make some great dvd burners and screw them them up so bad for HP

          Thanks guys

when i purchased this pc HP7170n about a year ago the original dvd burner was a hp640(can't remember exactly) and it wouldn't burn anything,so they repalced it with the 740b

now i'm not sure if i should upgrade the firmware or just leave it how it is(i don't want more problems,i had a bad experience upgrading firmware in the past)

as far as nero is concerned i am only going to be using imgburn when ever possible, but like i said the problem only happens sometimes

i'll let you know if i upgrade and the results

just in case any suggestions on a good replacement

If you choose to flash, do it from safe mode with the drive empty & you should be okay. I have seen some good burns with the Samsung 182D (I think that's it) but the pros should be along to give you a heads up on drives.

for a well built, good all round drive the samsung seems to be a good choice

                the pioneer 112 also
