we had great results with ricoh blanks last year, however they were almost 2 years old when I got them from the last available batch(4x dvd+r)
sony ty's, yuden t02's must have stopped production long ago
mass production of mediocre media seems to be the rule nowComment

Well, I found some more information about my Verbatims 16X
They are made in Taiwan. Verbatim subcontracts 2 plants in Taiwan to make DVDs. One is Prodisc and the other is CMC MAG.
I assumed these were CMCs. They are actually Prodisc manufactured Verbatims.
I was reading this thread at CDF called: "Bad batches of Verbatim DVD+R 16X out there". LINK
Which sent me to this thread on how to differentiate them by plant..: LINK
It is post # 15 in the last thread that tells you how to figure out which plant manufactured your disk: LINK
My outer ID ring is: ZD5191-DVR-T47D
My inner ID ring is: 6191E1913+00722E06
The plus sign is what tells that it was made by the prodisc factory there.
Buyer beware as now there is differing quality coming from Taiwan.
Verbatim better get their QC going or they will start losing a lot of customers! I am one who is NOT going back until they improve! I hope I can find some 8X Verbs because I know they still work! (But I wonder if production has ceased?????????????)Last edited by Gary D; 2 Jun 2007, 12:19 PM.Gary D

In Canada, it was hard to find Verbs on sale in a brick and mortar store. But now Future Shop (parent company: Best Buy) is selling them on sale about once a month. (regularly $70 ... on sale $30)
I wonder if quantity sold has gone up and quality is now suffering???Gary D

@soup - something else has got a hold of your drive. To see which open process explorer and find "cdrom". Shut down that process.

Here is a 12X burn on the 8X Sony
Find attach is a 12X burn on the TY (Sony) 8X. I had "Overspeed writing" enabled. I also have the 16X option but will not probably use it.
I did a burn at 4X and lost the results. The PIFs were about 300 when I aborted at the 3 GB mark. Slower is not better with this media.Gary D
