Could be that your firmware is old in your DVD burner and isn't recognizing your discs...please post your drive model number, current firmware version and MID of discs being used.

The above program should give us all the required information.

i have used your dvd identifier link, and nothing its just saying not avliable in all the tabs, i can burn cds no problems just the dvds proving more difficult.

the discs i bought were dvd-r, and all i can work out is DVD-RW, IF THAT HELPS, SORRY FOR BEING A PAIN

        Try it from here: http://www.dvdr-digest.com/software/dvd_identifier.html

Have you been able to burn DVD's in the past, but just recently have run into difficulty? New media, old drive? ASPI corrupt?

Download and run Nero Infotool from above link to check system and Nero's ASPI...if it is corrupt you could experience irratic results such as burning CD's, but not DVD's.

EDIT: All the links work fine for me, make sure your security settings or firewall aren't blocking the sites.

go to system in control panel, open hardware/device manager, click the plus next to dvd/cd drives and tell us what windows calls your drive exactly

when I searched for that firmware I found it was for a combo drive

GCC4481B which burns cd's but only reads dvd's

you will need a dvd burner

                      thank you so so much.

Final question then, which dvd burner do you recommend ?

                      thank you once again.

depends upon where you are, here in the USA I usually reccomend newegg for online orders

This one would be another viable option
