Lite-On LH-20A1HX won't read some DVDs

Strange, I recently purchased the LH-20A1HX; and on several dvds to date I get the error message: cant find drive (No Reference Position found).

Basically, the drive cant read the disc?

There are no firmware updates to date for this external drive.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this with this drive?
