unable to read back burn DVD-R

    I have Pioneer DVR 106D firmware 1.08.
I have Windows XP Pro SP2.
I have Nero Burning ROM 5.5.10.56

I burn a DVD video on a DVD-R disc, region 1, in the slowest x1 speed. I can play this disc on my DVD player fine.

But when I insert this disc back into the same drive, I have "no media".
The drive just does not recognize the media, keep asking to insert media.

What do I do to correct this? Thank you.

unable to read back burnt DVD-R disc

I used to be able to burn and read back DVD-R discs in this same system for years. Lately, something happened and it does not let me read back some DVD-R discs.
I test with a DVD-ROM movie and this DVR drive play the movie fine.
Is there anyway I can test the system?

I have had the same problem with some of my burners. The latest one was a Pioneer D110. It can write and also "verify" the burned disc in a program such an ImgBurn. But if you then try to read/load the same disc again - it will not work. I have tried to clean them/reload firmware - but the only working solution so far is to buy a new one.

Actually, I have tried around 5 different brands of DVD-R media. From expensive TDK & HP blank disc to cheapies. I have alrady tried write at x1, x2, x4. Same results. I have asked my friends to write a DVD-R in his system. I am unable to read it in mine. But this drive can play back DVD-ROM movies fine.

Do you think I have software of hardware problem? From your answers, you seems to think I have hardware DVR-106D drive problem? This is my second Pioneer drives. Is Pioneer DVR internal drive has so much problems? What is better choice and reasonable price?

I have also burn CD-R both audio and data discs.
I can read the CD-R discs back fine, no problems.

I also upgrade the Nero Burning ROM to 6.6.1.15a.

Also, I disassemble the drive and cleaned everything.

Yes, the IDE master and slave are set at the drive. (not by cable). There is marking on the back of drive to set jumper.

Yes, I have remove all other drives, and try this Pioneer DVR-106D by itself as slave, then, master, then back to slave again. I also swap the IDE cable with another known good computer with working good drives.

              All same results.
