I suspect your laptop only has usb1 not usb2?

my laptop doesn't have usb 2.0 ports

4x burning is about 5.5MB/s(15 minutes)

just to give an update, i recieved my usb2.0 ports the other day. i followed the directions, installed it, and now i'm burning dvd's very nicely. in a record time of 9 minutes. thanks so much chewy!

well, now i have 2 totally different problems. after recieving my 2.0 ports, i burnered a handful of dvd's then shut my laptop off for the night. when i turned it back on the next morning, i had these problems.

*my usb1.0 ports don't seem to work anymore. is this normal? i had a mouse hooked up to my 1.0 ports. they worked fine until i shut down that night. i plugged them into the 2.0 and it works fine. will i not be able to use 1.0 anymore?

*and secondly, my wireless internet is no more. i have taken an ethernet cord and hooked up to the pc so i can at least have internet. down where it tells my signal strength is says - 'compaq - no wirless network card driver present'

again, both of these items work beautifully after installing the usb2.0 ports. it's was only after the shutdown that night that they didn't seem to work any further.

sounds like a resource conflict, check the internet for an updated driver for the usb adapter, if all else fails try to only use the adapter(inserted) when you are going to a few burns, usb is a system resource hog

that's why when I set up a computer I go into bios and turn off everything that I don't need for everyday use

i checked for an updated driver for the usb2.0 and couldn't find anything.

i pulled out the usb2.0 and restarted the computer. my usb1.0 ports still do not work. and i still can't use wireless internet. it still says that the wireless driver isn't present.

i've tried everything i know to do. can't seem to fix it.

any help would be a blessing.

if the driver for your new card was too old, and xp already had a better driver
that might cause this conflict

what's the date on the driver that you loaded? is there an entry in add and remove programs? did you load a driver?

i don't think i loaded a driver. i only put the usb2.0 in the computer and let it do it's thing. that's what the directions for the usb said to do.

i don't see anything related to the usb2.0 in the add/remove programs

i'm not sure how to check for a date on the drivers

i really appreciate this help.

let's try and track down the problem
1. what model of laptop are you using?
2. what was the card you ordered?
3. running xp, do you have sp2?
