Why are my movies freezing?!!

Okay I am a DVD Burning veteran. I have probably burned over 300 flicks without a single problem...until two nights ago. It would stay frozen for a few moments while the DVD Player tried to read it. After about thirty seconds it skips ahead to the nearest chapter. Upon inspection of the disc I noticed a very faint ring running around the disc. It looks almost as though my burner stop burning for a moment and then restarted. I thought it might have been the DVD player so I tried watching a different movie on a different player and it did the same thing. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I am hoping to God it is either bad blank media or I need to get some different software or something. The ring only shows up when I have to compress a file onto a a disc...so...come on whiz kids lol, help a brother out.

what program is actually doing the burning? and it wasn't one of those that I had to edit it out of your post that violated rule 19

you should be burning manually after checking the files on your hard drive to make sure they play right

a quick guess, the freezing is in the later part of the disk?

that's when your burn would be getting too fast

I would slow the burn speed to 8x or even 4x and doublecheck the burns in your computer drive to make sure that your standalone dvd player is not
partly at fault

I used some iffy media and had freezing, when I analyzed the disk it was ok, but still a crappy burn, I cleaned my player and it worked

better blanks like taiyo yuden or verbatim burned slow give you a better chance for playability

Well I tried burning another couple of discs. I used the same file both times. The first time it had the ring, the second time however, it did not. I ran them both through Nero CD-DVD Speed Tester(the scan disc option) and the one with the disc had several bad sectors while the second one had zero. I am starting to think it might just be bad media. The skipping doesn't necessarily only happen in the later part of the discs either. Some have a few scattered throughout, while others have them only at the end...so who knows

probably some bad disks in that batch, still lower burn speed to 8X

a trt graph would be a good check after burning before deleting the file(s) off
your hard drive

Hi folks,

Not to throw a wrench in the picture ... but I myself have not been too crazy about Samsung/Toshiba products.

@ BigMatt ... with Chewy's permission ... I would suggest also one more step ... besides slowing to 8x Burn Speed and using Quality Media.

Make an ISO file and then Burn it using "ImgBurn" program ... 100 times better than NERO or anything else.

same problem here chewy. just lately w/new sata sammie. don't think it's burner though. damn disc won't completely read in 2 different stand alones, and even in drive after burning. always burn 8x max. golden rule. only 2 blanks, but different material on both. like file set. switched over while back from isos. am not using different burning proggie though. got tired of having to switch over to imgburn, or w/e to finish burning. using sony dvd-r blanks. hit me up w/best suggestion as still have time to return discs, and get money back. thnx.
