    Buffer Level (HELP!!!!!)

ok these might be some stupid question but i dont know about them.

    1. when i burn stuff on to a dvd in nero down towards the bottom in the middle there is a percent guauge that is really jumpy. it got 84, 89, 94, 89, 84 ,89 ..... and so on constantly throughout the burn. but when i tried to print something while i was burning.(i know i am not supposed to do that.) any it was jumping down to about 20 something and then back up. as soon as the printer stop it was back to the high 80s- high 90s again.

    2. While it is burning the used read button gauge is also decreasing. i dont think that it ever did that before. 11 minutes into the burn the percent is down to the 50-60 area. now with 50 seconds to go it is back at 100 but flickers down to 99 98 percent.

    3. at the begining of the burn it says that it will take 13 minutes and 50 seconds. but when it is finished it takes it took 15 minutes and 14 seconds.

please help i never remeber this doing this kind of stuff.

Doesn't appear to be a lot wrong with that burn. Don't mess around with USB devices when you burn. 90+ buffer is OK.

It might be a good idea to swap the old LG for the newer reader internally.

were you burning from the laptop's hard drive or from an external usb hard drive?

remember using 2 usb drives as source and destination is an iffy operation and very system intensive

renable dma on the internal drive

yes i am using an external hardrive and it has always worked for me before. that has never ever been a problem. is the dma the problem for the internal hdd? would that casuse it to make the entire computer come to almost a halt.???

your laptop is probably fragmented and overloaded

the external hard drive is probably fragmented

post screenshots of defrag analysis for both

my data drive is mostly empty but badly fragmented

here's the big problem with usb2 as explained at the AcomDate site!

                      Q: What's faster, USB 2.0 or FireWire?
A: As with so many questions about technology, the answer to that question is not a simple one. USB 2.0 and FireWire are very similar in many respects, but there are definite differences.

At first glance it would appear that USB 2.0 (480 Mbps) is indeed faster than FireWire (400 Mbps). However, this is only true under ideal conditions. While 480 Mbps is the maximum speed achievable, USB 2.0 cannot guarantee a specified data transfer rate. This is mainly because USB 2.0 is a master-slave, host-dependent technology, meaning it relies on your computer's CPU to facilitate and manage data transfers.
FireWire (IEEE 1394x), on the other hand, is a peer-to-peer technology that does not require CPU resources to facilitate data transfers between FireWire devices. Moreover, FireWire devices can guarantee real-time delivery of data at a specific rate. Real time data delivery is necessary for certain applications, such as digital video streaming where dropped or delayed data packets is unacceptable. This is why devices like digital camcorders have 1394 interfaces, and why FireWire is the interface of choice for digital video editing applications.

For day-to-day hard drive use, USB 2.0 and FireWire will have comparable performance though FireWire will probably have a slight performance edge, which can make a difference if you are performing tasks that require large, frequent data transfers.

You could also update that Nero, now this does not have to do with your problem. Do not touch InCD.

You also might want to consider getting rid of this, it's Roxio & you can remove it with RoxioZap.
