    DVD Movie Freezes

    Hi,
I'm new to this forum and I hope somebody could answers some questions I have regarding burning DVD VOB files to play on DVD Players.

I have this issue: On many occasions when I Burn home video or unprotected movies to dvd's using nero software, do a verified and everything is completed successfully, the movie plays good but then it starts to freeze up and break up until is no longer playable. Sometimes it does it right away, sometimes it takes up to 45 minutes or more. I have used different media, Memorex, Verbatin, Fuji, etc, without much difference, I have a LG burner, 16X, but I experienced the same problems with other two brands I owed previously in three different computers.

Now my question is: Is this the nature of the beast? Do I have to resign myself to play Russian roulette and hope this time the DVD is going to play from beginning to end without breaking or freezing up? Or is there a way to burn dvd's with a 99% assurance that they will work.
Is there a better DVD burner ?
I've have burned over a hundred DVD's for myself and friends and family, so is not lack of practice, I'm just tired of the inconsistency, of not knowing whether it's going to play from start to end.

I'm using Window XP in a Core 2 Duo 6400 CPU with Nvidia 7600GS Video Card and 4GB of memory. I use DVD + media. LG 16X Burner.

Any light on the subject will be appreciated,
    Sorry for the long letter.
    Thanks,
    JC

If you have a good burner and follow Blutach's advise

A good standalone player is also essential

        DVD Burning

Thank you Chewy for the response,

I just looked at my media and realized that I've been using "Memorex" Brand which explain some of the bad disks I've got.
I've been reading Bluetach links, which are very informative so that is helping a lot already.

My stand alone is a Sansung and runs good as far as I can tell, is about 3 years old. My Burner is an LG, and is almost a year old.
I'm using Nero 6.0 as my burning software.

I'm going to get new media, and follow the advice of Digital.com, they have a list of first class media on their guides.
Now, should it matter whether is + or - as far as playing back in any standalone?, I read somewhere that + is the way to go, so that is what I've been using.
I'm going to get TDK brand and see if that helps.

Question: What brand and model of DVD burning should I consider in case I need to replace my LG? Is there any site that can give me some worth while advice as which one burns better to the disks?

        Thanks.

        JC.

            Burner

I've been reading some of the posts and got very good info.
By the way, I was wrong, I have a Sansung burner, (I was thinking of my last computer), it shows in nero as: TSST Corp. SH-S182M and the firmware is: SB02.
I should check with cdfreaks to see if they have an updated firmware.
Also I need to inform myself about bitsetting and other terms used in this forum, I bet in the newbie there should be some stickies.

I just did a burn with a Sony dvd media, then did a scan with Nero and everything was green!

            Thanks,

            JC
