    Tearing my hair out......

    Hi folks,

New to the forum and a relative noob here. I bought a new PC recently, HP Pavilion Media Centre 8120n, Windows Vista Home Premium. I am unable to burn DL discs (data or DVD). I am using Philips, so haven't tried Verbatim yet. I read several places that I should turn on DMA through Device Manager ---- IDE/ATAPI Controllers, except in my Device Manager there is no option for IDE/ATAPI Controllers. Besides both my hard drives and the DVD drive are SATA so DMA should always be on. I went into my BIOS and confirmed that SATA is enabled for all three drives. Also, the Ultra DMA Mode for the hard drives is set at 5, but for the DVD drive its 2. Below is the log from my last burn attempt with NERO 8. Interesting to note in Scsi Device Map it is showing DMA on for only one hard drive but DMA off for the other drive and the DVD drive. Not sure why. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I went into my BIOS and all it shows is that SATA is enabled for all three devices. Below that is a box that is greyed out but shows Ultra DMA Mode 5 for the two hard drives and Ultra DMA Mode 2 for the DVD drive. But as I said, its greyed out so there is no option to change it. Anyhow, it appears that DMA is enabled already, so not sure why I get the DMA off notification in Nero log, unless there is some other place in BIOS I should be looking.

No, I was going to try doing the image burn tonight. I've also tried Roxio but that doesn't work either. Mind you, the problem is only with DL discs. All other discs burn without any problems.

              so haven't tried Verbatim yet
the first thing to try is buy some reliable disks, then we can go from there

anything by phillips is suspect and we don't know if it's the blanks or the burner or the software

if 2.4x verbatim fails with imgburn then we can try and narrow it down
