Need hlep to reset dvd drive

I have a Dell Dimension 4700 and my dvd and cd drive both have been having problems lately. Reading disc and recently very slow on burning back up disc. I normally can make back ups in 15-25 minutes and my last one took 1 hour. I know I might need to update firmware or whatever but I think this might help. I just don't remember the steps in which to reset the drives. All I remember doing is diabling the drive and rebooting the pc, which automatically reseted the drives but forgot how to get to those options. Thanks for any help, I really appreciate it.

Oh man never mind, looks like I didn't search hard enough. I just wasn't looking in the right places I guess. But I found out how to reset my DMA and I tried another back up and was successful in 11mins.

      glad you figured it out

a lot of the sites on the web that reference losing dma refer to problems with hardware, including drive firmware

since this has happened before you might doublecheck your cables/connections and firmware

unless you are reading or burning crappy disks one after another
