Confused - All of the Sudden High PIF's ???

All of the sudden my scans have high PIF"S. It's funny it happened since I bought the new neon Verb's.

I went back to the old ones and two different batches.

I did notice that I had the sonic driver on my filter load order, so I removed it.

Still no difference, so I did a fresh install of XP. I even took apart my computer and cleaned out all the dust. I cleaned the optical drive with one of those drive cleaners.

I even reset my DMA for the heck of it.

I only have 19 running processes and I disable my network while burning. I do not multitask while burning.

I am used to PIF's under 1000, so this is confusing and frustrating.

Any trouble shooting ideas will help, as I am running out of options I can think of.

I have even tried different speeds in the attached scans. 8X,12X and 16X
    Thank You in advance all.

welcome to the new verbatim's, try a yuden t02 or a tyg02 to see if your burner is acting up

Okay will order some soon. Just to clarify these scans are from old stock Verb's.

I got rid of the new junk.

      Thanks

do the L and K have little feet on them? they are cmc if they do, prodisc if not

my new batch of prodisc scans a little better than that

I never heard of anyone having much luck with the cheap cleaning disks?

Has the drive seen a lot of use?

Wonder if it's the power supply?

Usually when a burner starts to go out it will have a set pattern of high pif's no matter what the disks.

set your burn speed to 8X or even 4x and then scan a couple of burns and see if you can eliminate errors from 12x burning, assuming the power supply is a factor?

I'm assuming that L an K is the lock and open print on the lid. My new spindle of 50 does have feet and is represented in the first scan above.

The second two is from without the feet and an old 100 spindle that I did this scan:

          Pretty consistant till recently.

Attached is the good spindle at 4X. (At least so I thought)

As far as the power supply, it is fairly new bought in May 2007 same as the burner.

I do have the a single power line the burner only. Also I am using an 80 IDE cable. Replaced while troubleshooting.

I did find a Sony D21 Blank. Is it worth testing on that till I get TY's

Also found out tonight I could possibly have a 203B for my on Sunday as a gift. So I guess that will be the true test on the burner.

I would use some compressed air to blow out the drive, you have to open the tray and then powerdown the computer?

was your computer dusty, lint? etc?

Yes I did that last night to the ODD before the scans in post #1 and yes it was very dusty in the case. It is an every other month task to clean the inside.
I also cleaned the tray with alcohol it was dirty. I also used the the cleaning disk I described before.

Also in answer to your previous question on how many burns on this drive is more than 100 but less than 200.

Thanks for chipping in Night. I am confused what you mean. Is there a way to clean the laser other than the cleaning disk. And yes the numbers are driving me nuts,

I also tried finding info on cleaning an optical drive (Hoping for a FAQ or something) because I have no clue.

I use an air compressor with a jet nozzle, but then I have to clean a lot of computers that rarely get cleaned.

what is everest showing for the voltage rails?

When I spray air like Chewy said but I like to aim them straight at the light when you open the tray, after clean I like to burn the first burn with RW ( spray that RW too )

I have been using canned air. Is that as effective?

@ Chewy Which report should I generate different from post #1 for voltage?

@Night spray the disk with air? Will CD-RW work or do I need DVD-RW?

And if DVD-RW What is the best (Reliable) brand to buy?

                          Thanks Guys! Your Great!

Have some shopping to do. Ran out of air and will look for some Verb RW.

I was looking at some RW's anyway for another project so two bird's with one stone.
