    Recommend a SATA burner?

Replaced my PATA burner (thanks, Chewey, for the recommendation). Worked great, until...entire computer took a dive. Well, it was 8 years old, so I think I got my money's worth.

New computer, but it uses SATA burner. So, I'd greatly appreciate recommendations on a good SATA burner.

    Thanks.

I like Plextors, they are not the cheapest, but for me work and last the longest. Three Plextors on this machine, a seven year old 708A, 716SA, and 760A. Firmware updates are a snap.

I would get the fastest and latest model dual layer (DVD9) SATA version from Plextor. And leave room in your case for a future Blu-Ray SATA reader/burner.

I just bought (last month) 3 different sata burners Lite-On LH-20A1S-12 which is ok but ,the main reason I loved my ide litey was that it burned crap media well and this one doesn't.It's DL burns seem to have the best scans of the 3 new ones.Them I got the Pioneer 212D which again has it's pros and cons but, seems to be better with the cheaper media than the litey. Then the Samsung 203b which has by far the best scans with premium media and has almost as good as the litey DL burns but,it's the worst for me with cheap media so I hope that helps. If you use Verbatim,Taiyo Yuden and such I recomend the sammy but,if you go for memorex and other bargain media the Pioneer would be next and it is better with the premium media than the litey but,not as good with DL.

        jblitz,

Thanks so much for your input. I very much appreciate the time you took to detail the subject. I use exclusively TY media, so the Samsung sounds like the way to go.

By the way, can the booktyping be changed on the Samsungs (I know it could on the Lite-On and LG ide burners I had)? Don't use Nero for burning, so wonder if it can be done with the Samsungs in ImgBurn..

        ed klein,

Thanks. I know the Plextor ide burners are top rate, but I've not read anything on their SATA burners. If someone here has had experience with them I'd like to know what they think...

Ebay certainly is a 'sellers' market', but at that price even on Ebay that one may be a hard sell! In any event the dvd burners are still readily available...

to be honest the booktyping ? is probably better answered by soup ,he's had the sammy a lot longer and is way beyond me in experience but,I assume it will.Plextor 810 is sata and highly reviewed but,you can get 2 or 3 of those sammy burners for the price of one (depending on sale) I got 1 from newegg 3 weeks ago $28 free shipping.

here is that samsung with lightscribe?? never tried one

hate to sound reduntant but, soup has the Plextor and the Samsung and has multiple scans with both .HE probably knows which to recommend.Check the disc quality thread the last 10 pages or so are full of both of there scans.I would recommend the sammy.

The Sammy will booktype automatically with ImgBurn. The PX-810SA will not booktype Dvd+R.
