There is no such thing as a "paying customer" for ImgBurn. It is free.

Nevertheless, your problem appears to be DMA related. Or you might have got a duff disc.

Wow.. thanks for the quick replies everyone!!

I was talking about the other program DVDFAB (i shouldn't have even brought it up)...

I will up date my firmware thanks for that!

I think I gave my self to much credit in my first post I'm not sure what DMA is... please elaborate..

And I too realize my DVDburner is very slow lately.. my computers about to crash?? please elaborate here too.

Thanks for the help... I may have to become an active member of the forums here... sounds like I am a little out dated.

see fix your dma in blu's signature

you have way too much memory in use, your hard drive(s) too full and fragmented
a pio burn should take about an hour not over 3 hours

Well I checked my DMA's under blu's sig...

They were already set as he said too (on the primary)... yet, on the secondary device it reads:

Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: PIO Mode

So maybe its not exactly as its suppose to be or maybe it is?? any help clearing this up?

As far as my HD

I have 10.9 GB free on drive C of 52.7 GB.
I have 9 GB free on drive D of 17 GB.

edit:: i also defragment frequently.... actually this morning.

something is still running in the background that's taking a lot of cpu cycles and memory

pio mode is about 1X true speed, but the cpu has to do all the work, do you see my logic?

If your hard drive is fragmented this would explain part of it, but it seems like something else is really wrong

go ahead and follow the directions for fixing the pio

Read about DMA in blu's sig a little bit more, because how to fix it is there. You need to get out of PIO mode. Is that one drive partitioned or 2 drives? Whatever it is you need to free up some more space or get a bigger storage drive or even get an external drive to store some stuff on. Is there a reason you are burning at MAX, do you always?

I remember seeing a similar problem on a borderline computer that was in dma mode

he's not building and burning on the fly, he's building an iso and then burning it???

that's a hard disk thrasher for sure with a partitioned drive

First its a laptop only DVD drive.. so I have to burn the the HD.

Its a dell inspiron e1505... its a duo core I believe?

Past Process:

Put backup dvd onto hard drive with DVDfab, burn video/audio ts folders on to DVD (w/ dvdfab) same media(verbatim) all the time at least 100 times... Then delete the back files on the computer.

-Lately DVDfab has been giving me errors (w/ no tech. help from their end yet) i've switched back to some of the free options... I elected imgburn as my burn candidate and after burning my first DVD with it, during the verify process i received the error noted in post one.

I realize I do have a slow speed (when dvdfab worked two weeks ago it would take about 1 hour and 30 mins. to burn a dvd) now twice as long as my first copy with imgburn.

So I have more problems than one I guess... anyway I'll finish up on that dma stuff.. then test or am I not ready to test yet?

Go ahead and try another once the DMA issue is fixed...you should see the difference immediately.

well you all were most certainly correct... I have never once burned a DVD in 14:23 MM:SS!!!

-I followed many pointers in blue's sig.... changed the dma stuff.. set the write speed to 4x, did a regs. clean etc...

Is there a way to prevent my computer from changing back to the poi mode later on?

try to only use quality blanks, never try to read dirty scratched disks, keep your firmware up to date

buffer any operation from one hard drive to another hard drive, even if you have to buy an external hd

keep cruddy low level filter driver programs(rootkit like) to a minimum

last but not least try to save the drive for essential operations, time and time again I see one fail from misuse and then someone can't run windows as a repair disk to fix their computer

your laptop is a valuable investment, never rely on it's internal dvd drive as an everyday workhorse tool, it won't hold up
