I'm experiencing a weird problem with PowerDVD that I've seen in all versions from 2.55 all the way up to XP 4.0. It seems that PowerDVD will drop frames in movies at exactly the same spot. The one major example I always use in testing is Star Wars: Episode I. Near the beginning, when Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are flying towards the Trade Federation ship, Qui-Gon calls to the Captain. The captain leans over and says, "Yes, sir?" As she leans over, the movement jumps a frame or two. When I play this same sequence in WinDVD, the motion is smooth with no jump. When I disable my SB Live 5.1 card and run the movie in PowerDVD with no sound, it runs smooth with no jumps. This suggests that the sound card may be the problem, but Cyberlink indicates that PowerDVD is compatible with SB Live 5.1, and I have the latest drivers (which doesn't say much as Creative has never released any new official updates to their CD drivers). Does anybody else experience this problem? Full system specs are below.
