DVD not region free any more

2 years ago I installed a region free DVD with no problems until now. The only region setting I did was when I installed the hollywood Plus Mpeg card software and I selected region 2 (on both my W98 and W2k partitions) but patched the w98 one to be region / macrovision free.

Now whenever I insert a DVD (movie not data disk) it ony accepts Region 1 disks, for a Region 2 one the light on the DVD flashes a little , but with no real disk spinning then it ejects.

I tested the drive by opening the PC and removing the cable so it was only powered up and it still does this so its nothing to do with Windows / software region settings.

I ran DVD Drive Info program and that still says the drive has no region.

    Any help?

download a region free firmware for your drive and flash it.

you could also try region free software such as DVD Genie.. your drive still may have to be flashed to region free firmware before the software will be permitted to work properly.
