dvd playback on tv-out fades in and out

i'm using a pioneer dvd-116 and geforce2 video card. when i play a dvd, it is fine on the monitor, but the picture quality is poor and the brightness fades in and out on the television. has anyone come across this problem before? it would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help.

cheers guys, i've sorted it. i think a lot of it actually had to do with the WinFastDVD player. NVDVD works brilliantly.
