Intense HD activity while playing DVDs...

I have a problem when playing my DVDs, When I start to play a DVD, the HD led flashes alittle in the same time as the dvd led and after about 60 - 70 min, it starts to be worse, the HD activity is really intense. I stop playback and the HD stops flashing...

My system is fast enough to play DVDs

    1100 Mhz CPU
    Geforce4 ti4200

    PLEASE HELP!!

i am under the imagination you have your hd and dvd rom hooked up to seperate channels, if that is the case and you still think your hd is spinning when it should not, take a look at your resources and find out if you have plenty left.
IMO tbird 1.3 is not the fastest chip by todays standards and dvd being of huge size might cause your hd to spin.

The minimum for DVD playback is supposed to be at least 450Mhz, my CPU is 1100Mhz, memory should be about 64megs minimum, I have 256megs. The DVD is a LG 16x.

I don't know anybody around my place who has a dvd player on his pc, is there anybody else who his HD reads in the same time as the DVD? Is it normal?

Maybe it's an hardware problem, my drive has trouble reading dual layer DVDs it seems, when I put the Back to the future DVD in, it takes almost 2 minutes to recognise it, and thats when I'm lucky cause some times it can't read it at all! But thats strange, its only the menu from back to the future that seems to be hard to play, when I click on "play movie" the movie goes on very well, but the same problem happens, after about 1h15min the hard disk is furiously reading.

I found another firmware for my drive, I flashed my drive, did'nt change anything.
