Need a DVD Player for a slower machine

I have a ThinkPad 770ED which came preloaded with DVDExpress by Mediamatics. Of course, I'm not the original user and no one knows where the recovery CD is located to be able to re-install the player.

Unfortunately, a lot of the players out there now require the system to be faster than what I've got:

    CPU: Pentium II, 266 MHz

    RAM: 64 MB

Is there a DVD player out there that will work for this machine?

    Thanks,
    Mike

If the audio and video filters (.AX files) from the DVD software are still in place on your system, install the "DVDPLAY.EXE" file from one of the .CAB files of a Win98 installation CD...

      Thanks for your reply.

The original installation is long gone, and, recently, I've had to reformat the drive and reinstall the O/S from a Win98SE CD since I didn't have the recovery CD.

      Any other ideas? Thanks.

I've looked at the list before, but the system requirements are not always listed.

From your experience, do you know which ones would work?

          Thanks.

Does your system have the video accelerator card? Look under the battery and if you see some little jacks you have the card and if not you do not. I have successfully run movies on a Pentium 233 machine that has that card by using DVD Express as issued by IBM and they have a free upgrade on their website. Only that decoder is optimized to work with the Thinkpad 770 mpeg accelerator card. If you still have the original DVD Express install or nay vestiges of it the upgrade will install for you.

              Thanks for your reply.

Yes, it does have the video accelerator card, but I do not have DVD Express installed since the recovery CD has been lost.

Also, from what I've read, the update requires that the original DVD Express product be previously installed.

Do you know where/how I can get the original DVD Express? Thanks.

Yes I have a copy on CD but it is not a huge file (15 megs or so). I could email it to you if your ISP allows such a big file to be handled. I could even try zipping it.

                  That would be great!

Try zipping it, but if it won't that's okay, too. Send it to the address in my user profile.

                  Thank you!

I am SO happy to have found this thread in this forum and this website! I had the exact same problem. I thought I was the only person left in the world still using my Thinkpad 770ed, as I looked everywhere in vain for a compatible dvd player.

Anyway, I would appreciate it very much if I could get my hands on that copy of the DVD Express as well.
                    Thanks very much in advance.

                    -y.

Unfortunately, I have not heard back from hwattys, so I do not have the software.

                        Maybe these could be useful:

                        and

The Edge (like your music ),

Thanks for the links, but the first sites links don't work. Only the first link off that page to the ftp site seems to function and the folder and DVDexpress program no longer seem to be on the site.

The second link to the IBM site is for the upgrade program. You have to have the original program on your system before this will work.

If anyone knows where the original DVDexpress program (that will install without a previous version already on the system) is located at that will work on an IBM Thinkpad, please let us know.

I have found though that WinDVD 4 works well on a Thinkpad 600e system with a 366mhz Pentium 2 and 64mb ram. At 1024x768 and 24 bit color depth the image looked bad, really rough and jaggy, but setting the video card to 16 bit color mode made for a nice smooth picture that seems to run without problem. I'm still curious if the DVDexpress software would perhaps take better advantage of the hardware of the video card on the Thinkpads?

                          Thanks

I understand that you are looking for a 16 mb version of
                              mediamatics dvdexpress.

here are two links one is for the windows me version
and the other for windows 2000

                              ME version

                              win 2000 version

these links are old and the version here might not be
uptodate.... i also understand that these version required
a special kind of accelerator hardware.....
I hope that they are still working......
maybe you can use the link The Edge provided to update!!!
                              I hope this helps.....
