i recently upgraded my computer from Millenium to XP for reasons that have nothing to do with DVD playback. Under Millenium, with the Matrox G400 supplied driver and Matrox/Ravisent software I could watch rented DVD's from multiple regions (i may have used up my 5 region switches now, i think it may be locked in region 1 - not sure about this).
Under Windows XP, the Matrox G400 supplied software (Matrox/Ravisent player) does not work. So i am happy to purchase a new player for XP and I downloaded a few trial versions to check them out.
I only own a few DVD's to test with, some region free (japanese anime, BBC Monty Python, etc...) and some region 4 (Matrix etc.., i am originally from australia but living in USA). I found the region free DVD's are working just fine but the region 4 DVD's "hang" the drive, it continues to spin up but never opens a player and i end up having to eject the disk manually to break the "hang".
i am yet to try a region 1 DVD.
is this behaviour due to my DVDROM firmware region coding or do i need to do something extra to XP to watch region coded DVD's ?
thanks.
