    No Video when playing DVD's

I am having problems playing any DVD on my Pioneer DVD-R drive. I have instealled PowerDVD, WinDVD, and NVDVD all with the same result. The drive recognizes the disc as a DVD, the player opens... I get audio but no video. This is with any DVD, copied or original.

I'm not sure if there is something wrong with the drive or possibly my video card?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need any further information let me know. Thanks!

DVD sound but no video in Windows XP

I'm having the exact same problem...searched for days through countless forums and help pages trying anything and everything. Nothing works! I thought maybe my video card was bad so I grabbed a spare drive and installed Windows XP fresh...soon as it was done installing I installed power dvd and the dvd played fine?? Somewhere between windows updates and new Nvida drivers it stops working...I'm still looking for the cure!!!

    SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP US...THIS SUCKS!!!!

      Possible fix

      Hey guys,

Had same problem on a new build using A7N8X mobo & NVidia AGP drivers; after downloading newest WHQL certified drivers (chipset & graphics) from the NVidia site my system would still not show video on DVD playback.

Fix: Noticed and change following settings: for pure hell of it adjusted the 'display mode' to 'single display' & 'digital' (have sony SDMX TFT) from the NVidia Media Center which sits in your taskbar and hey presto full glorious video was restored. If you have a different display time chances are changing this settings will fix your problem if everything else works. Hope this helps!

        To illmonkey and wphadley

The following MAY be pertinent to your situation:

There have been several postings over the past few months regarding this specific matter. The solution is to download and install the older NVidia driver(s)...

"The 41.09 and future drivers have more stringent checks in the driver to comply with the latest Macrovision requirements. If the TV encoder does not support Macrovision, you will get the "Macrovision Distribution Failed" error message or a similar message depending on which DVD software player you are using. The BT868 and Conexant CX25870 TV encoders do not support Macrovision. If your graphics card is equipped with one of these TV encoders, then it will not support DVD playback with our 41.09 drivers and above."
