New Dvd recorder dvd playback

I Saw a few posts about this but not one person had an answer. Maybe you will help me

Just bought a dvd burner, installed it, installed a new version of Power dvd that came with it. set it to Region 1, as it told me that my dvd drive settings are region 1.

Every time i try to play a dvd it tells me its forbidden from being played because its a wrong region. How is this possible. I had a different dvd drive installed before but never even used it for dvd watching purposses. Is there any way to fix this?

If i make it region free, will it effect burning dvds?

I figured out what was wrong. I had to update the firmware. Now everything is peachy. For now that is.
