I've used DVD shrink (v2.3) to backup a full disk of a region 1 dvd ,in the UK, but on playing in either PC or DVD player I get a blue screen saying "This player is incompatible with the region marking of the disc". (I have selected region free). I've found the blue screen is actually on the disk (as DVD/menus/title menus/english/menu15). I've got round by re-authoring, and selecting just the film, but I wonder if any one as got round this "protection" ?. I'ts as if the DVD tests the region code of the player/software and plays this menu15 which then stops the player functioning.

Your DVD most probably has "RCE" protection (NOT the same, but similar, to Region protection.
In the future, use DVD Decrypter to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").
(The default settings of DVD Decrypter include the removal of RCE, as well as Region protection)
Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk") - and select "VIDEO_TS.IFO"
(DVD Shrink v.3.0beta5 supposedly has incorporated RCE removal, but from what I've seen, it appears to be flawed) -
A menu, that is reached by some key sequence on the remote (I think), using which the player can be made multi region, macrovision off and RCE disabled. It's not my player but the owner did say it was a menu (maybe it's not "hidden"/"secret" I don't know).Comment
