I am urgently trying to find an answer to this problem.
Basically, I have an ECS 901 desknote laptop. It will play MPEG2 files in any display mode, no problem. That is until an external monitor is plugged in, it will then no longer play MPEG 2 video in 16 bit mode (32 bit is not available in dual monitor mode). But it will play images and GUI stuff in this mode just not video on either the laptop or the extrnal screen!
The screen just remains black but the hard drive accesses and sound plays.
If I switch to 8 bit mode, the images & GUI still play (at 8 bit) and now the video plays (at 16 bit!) there is a screen flash as the system switches between 8 bit and 16 bit automatically.
Have tried everything, setting overlay off, acceleration off etc.
Looks like a Windows Media Player 9 problem as it says it cannot find the codec (although it can fine when no external monitor is plugged in with the same file), the codec being used is WindDVD, the WinDVD shell DOES play the video in 16bit mode on both monitors.
This is urgent for a project do any help would be greatly appreciated as I am completely flummoxed..
Cheers
