PowerDVD 4 XP Hardware Accellerator Detection

OS : Win XP Corp (all updates applied)
    PowerDVD v4.0 (1228 patch applied)
    Graphics : ATI Radeon 7500 (6.13.6022 drivers)

My problem is that PowerDVD refuses to detect the hardware MPEG decoder on my Radeon card for the playback of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files (including VCD disks). Yet the hardware accellerator IS detected and used when playing back AVI files!!!

Both WinDVD and ATI File Player 7.5 detect and use the accellerator for the playback of MPEG-1/2 files.

This must either be a bug or a configuration issue with PowerDVD but I can't figure it out! I've tried the usual tweaking tools without any luck at all....

...has anybody else got the same problem, or know of any fix?

Note I also use DVD Genie 4.05.

Strangely in XP Power DVD does not support as many older video cards and drivers as did the 3.0 version. Thus what you are seeing because of Direct X 8.1 is a lack of hardware motion compensation. There is no cure.
Win DVD is worse. And installing the older 3.0 version will not help.

Since when could the Radeon 7500 be classed as "older hardware"? It's only been on the streets for six months!!!

Also, I beg to differ about other players, such as WinDVD, since all of the players I've tried EXCEPT PowerDVD XP, have no trouble at all detecting the accelerator for MPEG playback on the Radeon.

I thinks it's about time that CyberLink rewrote the bit of code that does the hardware detection. It never worked properly under Win2000 and they still haven't fixed it for WinXP. Given how fundamental this bit of code is to the operation of the product, I can't help but wonder whether CyberLink bother to do any testing at all prior to release?

I think they need to bang some heads together...
