Coby 223 Region Free Needed

Dear all,

Pls Need Help on Coby DVD-223 to switch to region free or region 4.

Already tried every hack around the web...

As aditional info, this is the firmware version: Z11-XQ-M

This is a brand new equipment perhaps any new change on software?


Any help it's very welcome

Coby DVD-223

1.Power up your player together with your T.V
2.Press the OPEN/CLOSE (once)
3.Close tray wirh same button.
3.Key in 3, 3, 0, 8, 8, 0 (Region-free "0")
4.(Optional)Key in 3,3,0,8,8,4 (Region "4")
5.As you key in the numbers a small character will appear on your
tv '_'
5.Re open the tray
6.Close it again
7.Power off your player
8.Power it on again

Thanks a lot, I've already tried that one, perhaps I mistake something.

That's why I was giving the firmware version, I don't know, cause this is a brand new equipment maybe this folks changed something in the firmware that disable this hack...

Well, i've tried several times with the same hack and nothing happens.

Even if the "_" appears in the screen it's seems to be not working at all.

But the code i'm entering is accepted by the wildcards, it only let me enter six digits.

What i see is that i press 3,3,0, and then 8 doesn't appear, when press the 8 again two "_" appears at the same time. I don't know if that's normal.

Is there any chance that in this equipment, that's brand new, a change in the firmware can result in the hack not to work?

You won't do anything to your player its only the hack that won't work.

Coby 223

I have the same problem. I bought a COBY-223 player in February and the original hack worked fine (see Count Shutka submission at

I now bought another Coby-223 and with the "Z11-XQ-M" firmware, it doesn't work.

After inputting 3,3,0 the next digit 8 doesn't show a "-" but after the second digit 8 two "-" characters appear. After input of the last "0" and opening/closing the tray, powering down, the hack doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Two kinds of Hack for COBY players

There are two kinds of COBY 223 player hack

(Hack Type A)

Power up your player and turn on your TV

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on your remote control once, then CLOSE the tray with the same button.

Key in 3, 3, 0, 8, 8, 0

When you key each number you will see a "_" character appear in the upper left portion of the screen.

You will not see any indication on the screen that this has worked except the six “_” characters will disappear.

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on your remote control once more and the CLOSE the tray with the same button.

Power down your player. When you power it up again it will be set to multi-region, in other words it will automatically play DVDs from all Regions without you having to do anything else!

RCE discs appear to playback without any problem.

It is also possible to render single-region playback on the player by changing the number at the end of the sequence : e.g. for just Region 1 playback the sequence is 3, 3 ,0, 8, 8, 1 and for just Region 2 playback, the sequence is 3, 3, 0, 8, 8, 2 and so on.

Note that you need to run the entire sequence (i.e. including the power on/off and open/close routine) each time you want to change the region"

(Hack Type B)

(1) Open tray

(2) Close tray with no disc in it

(3) TV screen says "no disc"

(4) Enter 5, 7, 8 on the remote control. After each digit is entered, a "-" character appears on the top left of TV screen

(5) Enter 9 and the digit "9" appears on top left of TV screen

(6) Open tray

(7) Close tray

(8) Power off DVD player

(9) Power up DVD player

(10) Now your DVD player plays all Regions without error or prompts !!


MACROVISION disable hack

with no disk in the player press:

Setup, Vol+, Vol-, Vol+, Vol-

If you press Up (or Down) button you can get into macrovision menu from here.

Again, using Left or Right buttons switch between 3000 (Off) and 3001 (On) values.

DVD-player keeps these new settings even after powering Off.
