    Sony DAV-S888 Compatability Problem???

Anyone know of any problems with the above and certain DVD-R discs?

My daughter has the player, which was chipped to be multi-region, and has recently been trying to play a variety of discs written on a Lite-On DVDRW LDW-851S using AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. The discs she's tried are Ritek Inkjet Printable Grade A, Datasafe Ritek A grade, Ritek Ridisk A Grade. All are 4X speed so OK for use with the writer.

When she tries to play them the sound is distorted, rather like the DVD playing slowly or skipping a track, this may also be accompanied by pixelation of the picture.

In extreme cases the DVD just doesn't play after it's been read. One DVD she tested played perfectly for 10 minutes but when she tried it again later the same day it wouldn't play.

All the DVDs play OK on her PC and on a couple of other DVD players she has tried which are cheaper players (one is her childrens) just to add to the annoyance.

Commercial DVDs seem OK although she did rent one from a small local video shop was OK until about midway through. When she told the shop they said it might just be a dirty disc.

When she enquired recently the shop said the DVD she had hired has been rented out since by the shop and they haven't been any complaints so they said if it wasn't dirty it might just be that her DVD player doesn't like certain discs. They said this does happen and nobody can say why.

As is often the case the player is just out of warranty so she is wondering if it's a compatability problem with the discs she's trying, and if so how does she get around it, or something more serious?
