My DVD Player doesnt play Region 1 DVDs

    Hi,

My DVD player [came with HP Notebook ZE5375US] plays DVDs just fine so far as they are region free. As soon as I put a Region 1 disc [my notebooks DVD region setting is set to 1] it plays choppy video and stops in a minute [that too not every time]. Region Free DVD just plays fine.. I contacted HP and they tried to upgrade whatever they could from BIOS to CODECs but they could not figure out the problem. I ran some free software [trial version] to make region free [DVD Region Free] and the region 1 DVDs just ran fine.

Would appreciate if anyone is aware of how to go about as I really feel very annoyed at this.

Can I run region 1 DVD somehow without any region free software?

Are there any free Region Free DVD s/w available for download?

    Please help.

    Thanks,
    Chintu

Try dvd43 available at www.dvd43.com (make sure you don't end up with the 2.x versions because they're not the free ones.)

You'll also need to install the pattin-couffin acces layer, you can find it here: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/vi...in-couffin.cfm

        DVD43 is an on-the-fly CSS/Region-Free utility.

Normally, it is used to allow you to copy DVD files from a CSS-Encrypted DVD without requiring a seperate ripper (you can access the files just like they aren't encrypted). However, since it removes region coding as well it also works as a good region-free utility.

As far as what the pattin-couffin layer is, I'm not really sure other than the fact that DVD43 requires it, and that it shows up in the device manager after installation. I have never had any adverse effects from it if that's what you're worried about.

Hope it works out for you, maybe someone else can shed some light on the nature of the pattin-couffin access layer for you!
