    Windows Media Player

    Hi Chaps,
Does anyone else have a problem with media player when opening mpeg or dvd files where it tells you "we are sorry but media player has encountered a problem ...........the program must close"
I have tried various versions of mp and have all the codecs installed but still the problem persists.
Installed ATI multi media centre and all file formats play perfectly.
    Any ideas?
    Regards Clanser

        Hi group,
Am using mp9 on XP Pro.
btw mp only crashes when opening a file with ac3 audio-wonder why it doesn't try to auto download a codec?
        Will try upgrade to mp10.
        Tks for the reply,
        Clanser
ps: the attachment was a test to see if I could post attachments,am having problems on another messageboard-sorry.

            Hi Floppy,
Only have SP1 installed at present-uninstalled SP2 as I suspect it is causing my network settings to be deleted randomly causing a ' limited or no network' report.
Will install it later-perhaps-as my machine is running OK now, don't know what to do about updates?
Anyone had similar problems with SP2?
            Regards Clanser.
PS: glad you liked what I was dishing up....lol

              Hi

True I randomly think that SP2 is like a whore that got stitched up so it could feel like a virgin!!! This is why more and more I come across SP2 related problems, with different software...

Ideas I try to have some but even MVP on Windows XP chat can help... They know less than I do, I know nothing, mind???

              Good things

"mp only crashes when opening a file with ac3 audio"

Do you have either a software DVD player (such as WinDVD or PowerDVD), or an .AC3 filter/codec installed on your system? If not, you should do so...

Never heard that one before, and probably not the best place to post it. What with kids visiting this site too.

                      Hi Group,
                      Thanks for all the input,
Have just downloaded ac3 codec(Thanks Ziadost) from freecodec and will install later.
I have powerdvd 5 installed but it wont play avi files with ac3-will try mp after installing codec.
                      Regards Clanser
