I had an off the record chat with a Sony service engineer and he said the same thing.
THERE IS NO MULTIREGION HACK FOR SLV-D950
I took the machine back to the shop this morning and they didn't hesitate to give me a refund. They didn't seem at all surprised to see the SLV-D950 on its way back either!
Remember The Sale of Goods Act people. If the nice shop assistant tells your machine can be multiregion and it can't then you can take it back and ask for your money back! DO IT NOW!
Sony have really shot themselves in the foot with the SLV-D950 IMHO. People are not going to waste their money on any manufacturers that stick to strict region coding policy.
