Printed labels affecting DVD playback

Can anyone tell me why sticking printed labels onto burned DVD's makes them pause and freeze when played on a DVD player? I discovered this seemingly inexplicable problem by accident.

If you can't put labels on DVD's, what other optons are there (other than printing direct onto the DVD)? Special labels perhaps or is it something I'm doing wrong in the burning process?

If you search the forums and read the FAQs, you will find countless threads on this (and other interesting) subjects.

Just use a luandry marker. You can't see the bloody label when it's playing or when it's in its case anyway.

Personally, I have not had this problem...ever. I have quite a few DVDs with paper labels and all work very well in my standalones.

Having heard the rumors of labels making for bad playback I went shopping. I purchased an Epson R200 printer (99.00 USD) and a stack of Printable DVDs. Downside to these is that any moisture will cause the ink to run. Even if you have sweat on your fingertips the ink will come off.

The main concern is playback, and I have found that both paper labels and printed ones work just as well. Any issues I have had with playback were a result of poor media, poor original, or user error on my part.
