Odd problem

I have two stand alone dvd players I use. Sometimes when i play a burned dvd it will play in one player but not the other. Sometimes they will play in both. I am fairly new to this so I guess i want to know is this a common problem? One dvd player is a GE and the other is a symphonic. Any help would be great.
