Region fix for Hitachi DV-RX7000E

I feel a right nurd but then I am a complete newbie to this so maybe that's an excuse!

I have bought the Hitachi DVD Recorder DV-RX7000E only to find that I cannot play half my collection as they were bought in the USA. Can anyone please assit?
