cannot play latest region 2 dvd releases

I recently got a sony vgx-xl100 media center and I love it however i cant play any uk discs on it, i got this from the uk so surely it should play them no problem, I do not want to try the multi region code apps out there as have had issues with some in the past however will do so if necessary. Here are the errors I am recieving:

    Windows Media Player 10
C00D1167: A problem occurred with copyright protection
yet I am not trying to copy anything

    Cyberlink Power DVD 6
f4d41436: The tv outport of your diaplay card is not working properly.
    I have a Geforce 6600 128mb PCI-E graphics card.

    Intervideo WinDVD for VAIO
Stop! Copy protection symbol is protected.

I have updated the machine to the latest windows updates and rollups and the driver was allready uptodate, I have played other dvd's on here fine, so i suspect its something to do with the copyright although these dvd's are legal.

PS I heard I may need to rollback the driver, if so where can i get the driver from and what is it called.

The last dvd i could play was Last Samurai, everything lately eg transporter 2, pirates of the caribbean will not play.

any help would be much apreciated.

The UK uses Pal and not all region 2 discs are pal, Japan has region 2 discs that are NTSC

if you have a Pal player you need to be sure that your region 2 discs are pal.

    Ok in better wording:

One more note: Just because a DVD is coded for a specific region doesn't mean it will play in all countries assigned that region. There is the added layer of incompatibility imposed by the great and wonderful powers that be. You also have to make sure the video formatting is the same. For example, both The UK and Japan are included in Region 2. Unfortunately, UK users the PAL video formatting while Japan is NTSC. In order to play a disc intended for the UK in Japan you will also have to have equipment that recognizes the video format. There are converters that will permit the mixing of PAL and NTSC so if you plan on using discs from different countries consider investing in such an additional box.

yes but im thinking this may be the solution but i do not know how to do it regarding my driver: http://forum.digital-digest.com/arch...24370-p-1.html, my sony vgn-a217s laptop which has a avi graphics card and imac g4 can play the dvd's fine, and they dont have region free software on, they where also purchased in the uk.

      thanks
