memorex is D grade, sony if 8x + MIJ is really good and MIT is B grade only spend few more cents per blank, get the best Yuden then you dont have to worry.( only great media you can burn close to the edge)

also try smaller disc burn setting...

I agree w/ the media probably being poor quality; I would also suggest setting the DVD burn size to not more than 4300. (Since DVD's burn from the center out to the edge - you probably know this)!

I started to now set mine even lower, like around 4200, which does give you less space to record to, but I have not noticed any quality loss, by having to "shrink" the file size smaller.

There are guys on here that can give you a good reason why not to "burn to the edge" better than I can explain it!

See chewy, geno & Nightrans posts...

        Hope this helps a little...

I've got the same problem and from reading all the above I guess I better start spending more money on disks rather than what's on sale. My question is that if it's a poor disks problem then why does it play ok on the PC?

your standalone may not like the kind of blanks you are using, some like +disks, others - disks, your computer drive likes both.

            try another player,

            welcome to the forum

a compatible player is an essential part of this backup process

You also might try using verbatims.

Also, you should reset the size of the dvd burned, as rec above.
              In Shrink,
              click Edit,
              click Preferences
              Under the Preference Tab,
you should see DVD Size option stuff,
click custom, type in 4350 in box (Some folks would rec. lower, say 4300)
              click ok
This will prevent movie from burning to outer edge of disk, where there is more apt to be imperfections.
