Audio But No Video With PowerDVD

I tried playing DVDs on my new DVD-RW drive, with “PowerDVD” v.6, but I can only get audio and not the video on the DVDs. The video I do get is some kind of chroma-key effect, unrelated to the DVD content.

I upgraded to DX9, enabled DMA for the DVD-RW drive, but found no available driver update for my Trident Video Accelerator 98XX/938X.

(My system specs: AMD Athlon 2800, with an Asus A7V880 MB, and an X86 Family 6 Model 10 processor, 520 Mgb of RAM. Running under W2K OS).

A tech suggested that I needed to upgrade my graphics card to an AGP 4X/8X—would that upgrade solve my audio-but-no-video DVD playback dilemma?

    Thanks for any feedback.

probably, but if you're going to upgrade get a PCI-E card, AGP is dead. don't bother unless you do a lot of video work and/or gaming.

try disabling hardware acceleration in PowerDVD's settings. better yet, use media player classic for DVD playback instead.

Thanks, Anonymez - Any recommendations on an affordable(?) PCI-E card?

sure, but first ensure you have a PCI-E slot in your motherboard. what games do you usually play?

if you're just after video playback, try what was suggested in my previous post

I don't play all that many games--usually "War in the Pacific" (still learning that sucker) and "Forge of Freedom:American Civil War" (on order).

My MB manual should tell me if I have a PCI-E slot, right?

I did try Media Player, and played a DVD flawlessly with it--thanks for the
          tip!

if they play comfortably with your current hardware, then it's probably not worth it.

yes; if in doubt, post the brand and model here
