    playback troubles

When I try to play my friends backup dvd's most of them stop and stutter on my machine. alienware notebook area 51 win xp sp2 Im using power DVD 5.0

the blanks are not verbatim or yuden.

He uses nero I believe. I check then with CD check and they come up with CRC errors in the BUP and VOB files etc.

The movies will play for a while then stop, sometimes it will recover until towards the end and then stop and freeze the system.
Last night I got frustrated and brouth the disk upstairs on my boat and put it in the bridge computer which also has power dvd (probably another version) and I was able to finish watching the film without problems.

question: why will it play in one machine but not in another?
Why will it play on the other machine even thought CD checks shows CRC errors? I cleaned the disk before watching. how? soft cloth and running alchohol then polished with pledge softly rubbing from inside out.

My Power DVD is the version that came with machine probably a couple years old. I have nvidea Geforce 6000 video card. Nec dvd writer. I have found no firmware updates. my systme is optimized for audio recording. 3 2 hard drives 7200 rpm. 3 gigs ram and 2.9 gz cpu. DMA is enabled.

notebook optical drives are not very good, especially after a lot of use

dvd's are all about error correction, a good drive tries to over a bad burn

the object is to burn disks that play in all drives
