DTS Sound

Hello,please guide me if im in the wrong place,so i converted an avi file but as i went to play it on my normal dvd player it comes without sound and on the display marked me DTS,as i played it on my surround system its ok,

can i converted to be played on my normal dvd player too?as many DVDs i have are playable on both DVD players,what can i do?can i convert a stereo sound to a surround system to?
