Hi All,
Some time ago I started to capture some of my old MiniDV tapes to my new computer, hoping to use some of the old material. The oldest tapes are from 2001/2002 (mostly Sony, TDK and FUJI).
Most of the older tapes does not seem to play correctly - it plays for 1/2 second then stops. When I rewind tape, it rewinds a few seconds and then stop (without reaching end/start). Same with forward. This happens with my oldest DV-tapes. It is like the MiniDV tapes or camera is sluggish or jammed. I tried many of my older tapes, and they all seems to have this issue.
If I pop in a new MiniDV tape, I can record, play and rewind with no problems.
Also to note, is that I usually can play the tape if camera has been unused over night... or if I use my movie editing software I can fast forward with picture... but not capture..
Is the camera in need of service? Or is the old DV tapes going bad?
Tapes have been stored in a closed box in a dry and cool space.
Any ideas?
