    macrovision tips please

Hi,, My 18 month old keeps destroying his kids videos, by pulling the tape out of the video casing amongst other things.

I'm trying to capture these tapes and convert to DVD.

Some capture fine, and some are affected by Macrovision I'm guessing ( about every 15 seconds the display fades in colour contrast , and then it's fine for about 15 seconds )

I use a SVHS deck - S video to S video capture path into a canopus acevio card.

I've tried capturing with canopus let's edit and vegas 4, but I get the same results.

I'm in Australia in PAL, if that makes any difference.

    Any tips appreciated

I use Videonics MX1 Dig Vid Mixer (had for years) with success.
Has Time Base Corrector, does the trick.

These mixers were expensive a while back, but still use often.
Other day saw one for sale for next to nothing - break your heart!

    Good luck.

A lot of local electronics stores sell TBC's nowadays.

Just give them the old "my tv doesn't have any AV inputs so I'm using my VCR" excuse and they should point you to a small box that'll help you out.

Thats what Macrovision is designed to do
If you bring the height in on the monotor you can see it
          Most Disney tapes have it

A TV proc amp will remove it, but Macrovison are now asking people who sell boxes that remove it to stop selling them.
          It seems to be working.

Proc amps are part of the broadcast industry and do much more than clean up the vertical interval (where macrovision is located).

They put on new syncs and burst and can often be used to set and correct levels.

Try looking on the broadcast equipment sites they have been around along time and are often affordable.

Failing that passing the signal through a broadcast Video machine will often do the same thing

            Macrovision solution Please

I have tried ALL solutions posted on the boards and I can not figure this out. I have a DVD Player in my PC and a Nvidea GeForce 4 card with TV out and no matter that I do to tweak or modify settings I can not get macrovision disabled so that I can send the DVD Video through the TV Out to the TV. I still get the distorted image that changes colors and brigtness.... can ANYONE offer a working solution for me???

            Thanks.

At the top of the picture is the macrovison signal, you might have to roll the TV picture with frame hold to see it.

You need to remove this. The best solution for external recording is a box between the video out of the PC and the recording device.

Lots of boxes used to be available to do this but Macrovision are talking to the companies that sell them and applying pressure to get them stopped.

There used to be circuits on the net that you could build to fix the problem.

I have a proffessional TV processing amplifier that fixes the problem.

Not sure what you mean by "At the top of the picture is the macrovison signal, you might have to roll the TV picture with frame hold to see it." but the setup that I have going is from the PC TV Out I am running through an RF Converter so I can get the signals to a Coaxl cable so I can connect to the TV (there are no other connections IN to this TV) The TV however IS a TV/VCR combo, and I was wondering if there was something in the VCR of the TV that would be causing the problem, but then decided that if I were turning off the Macrovision properly on the DVD Drive of the PC that it shouldn't. so am am baffled at this whole process... I downloaded some new programs that I can try to disable the Macrovision but I'm not sure what else to do without having to buy a seperate unit to filter out the MV signal before it gets to teh TV (something I'm not really willng to do at this point)

                  any thoughts?

Sorry TV sets used to have controls called Vertical hold that would make the picture roll and enable you to see the top beyond the top of the picure. This is where the macrovision signal sits. On a broadcast monitor you can of set the picture with a pulse cross setting, but TV sets do not have this.

You need a better connection to you TV VCR rf converters dont help picture quality. Scart connection would be better

Sorry but I spent many years in broadcat TV engineering and i worked with the Chap that invented macrovision. Its not easy to teach this complex subject in a small text box on a website.

                    Where abouts are you

Ahh.. I do remember those old sets growing up. This TV I have is only a few years old. The RF converter is only being used to take all of the composite connections from the PC (S-Video and seperate Audio connections) and signal them together to a more newtral connection (coaxl cable). when I bought it I had no need to try to get a better signal quallity or filter out Macrovision. Basicly I just usr it to play videos from the PC to my son's television in his room. When I installed the DVD Drive to play his DVD's this way is where I started running into the problems.
                      I'm in the US.

                          Key Features

DVD Wizard Pro offers is our number one choice. This program is very easy to use, simply insert your disk, and copy. We we're able to make perfect backup copies using this program. With DVD Wizard Pro you are able to backup DVD to DVDR, VCD, SVCD, and even DivX. DVD Wizard Pro also provides information on how to copy PS2, Xbox, and pretty much most other console games.

                          DVD Wizard Pro
                          Price $39.95

Since it's the Macrovison [software the causes to block copying], need another software to block Macrovison software from copying.

                          Happy Copying,:
