I Got Windvd 4 Plus that program kicks ****ing ass plus is the only program i got too work with DTS and AC3 all others program dont wanna use my SPDIF output

Version 4.05 seems to fix most errors.

The picture is good quality when I use the TV out on my graphics card, but the sound is shocking. It lags gehind the picture - any1 know of any fixes??

Generally very good, but I've found enabling hardware acceleration in Windvd Platinum causes the picture to go all fuzzy. Disabling this option seems to have no effect on the speed and the picture it perfect

After a few months I tried WinDVD but all I hae to say is that I prefer PowerDVD.

The cumbersome controls make Windvd more annoying and harder to use.

Though I have heard reports that it offers higher quality playback on dvd's.

Does the latest version of WinDVD (version 5) have the capability to open ripped DVD files similar to PowerDVD? Or does it remain a bothersome fact that a virtual drive needs to be created for WinDVD to perform this function?

WinDVD has supported ripped DVD playback for some time now. Here's an extract from my WinDVD 5.0 review :

I should also mention WinDVD's "Play DVD from folder" option, which allows you to playback ripped DVDs from your hard-drive directly. PowerDVD 5.0 has improved its equivalent option by opening ripped folders, instead of opening the IFO file, and so both players have pretty much the same ripped playback support. However what I found a little annoying was the fact that WinDVD refused to remember that last opened ripped DVD folder, meaning that I have to locate the ripped folder each and every time I wanted to playback from it. The resume function does work with ripped DVDs, which is something PowerDVD doesn't seem to be able to do.
