vob's playing right in vob editor but.....

I have been trying for what seems like a century to simply rip a dvd. I tried everything and then it came to me that maybe one of the vob's was at a different frame rate than the others. I just processed the first vob with easydivx v.0.81 and found that the audio goes out of sync abruptly even within the first vob. So it wasn't the point where the vob's change! My last resort was to use a vob splitter and split the first vob and use virtual dub to delay the audio for each part according to what rate was appropriate. What was interesting, though, was that when I used the preview function in the vob editor, the vob played perfect. The audio and video were in perfect sync all the way through. So I am wondering if it is because I am using easydivx. Anyhow, does anyone know how to find out what the settings are in vobedit so I can use them to make the divx or avi??? Also, what other ways are there to encode? Do I have to use divx??
