DVD to DivX

What is considered the best way to encode the DVD to DivX. I can't get Vfapi reader to work, so I need to find another way to convert the VOB files to DivX. I used to do the following:

Rip the DVD with Smartripper
Rip the AC3 signal and create a D2V file with DVD2AVI
I then created a dummy file with Vfapi reader
I then created the DivX video file with Virtual Dub
Then combined the DivX video file with the AC3 signal and I was good to go

What do I do now since the dam Vfapi reader is screwing me!!!

Does Gordianknot allow for AC3 and is it easier then what I am used to doing? By the way thanks for helping!

I would say so yes, but I suppose it's a matter of opinion. But it's cirtainly faster than using vfapi
