CD-RW read dvd

IS it possible to get my cd-rw to read dvd discs,I dont have a dvd-rom AND some guy told me that there is a way to copy dvd discs via divx----
I have installed divx but when i insert the movie it doesnt recognise that a disc is IN.

Is this fellow tripping or not-he INSISTS you can and that insatallation of compression software is the way-

Ive done that---is it due to 'PATCHING' being required----getting the drive to read divx??

At the risk of embarrassing you, I would ask - If a CD-RW was capable of reading DVDs, why would DVD players exist?

Yes, there is a method of compressing DVDs called "DivX", which will allow you to fit the compressed version of a DVD onto a CD - BUT you have to have a DVD player in order to "rip" (copy and unprotect) the DVD files.
