AC3 Codec and conversion to MPEG

It seems now everybody is using AC3 sound on their DVD rips with xVid. This is great for playing on the PC but a real pain to convert to MPEG. I use TMPGEnc so have to rip out the AC3 sound and put it back once i've converted it to MP3 or whatever TMPGEnc will read.

Is there any other MPEG convertor like TMPGEnc that can automatically convert this audio to MPEG yet still retain the TMPGEnc quality, or are TMPGEnc going to do it anyway?

Until then rip, convert, compress and save before TMPGEnc

Check this thread. It seems that Nero natively supports AC3 files, though I've yet to personally test it.
