Playback problem in XP

Please help...

I have this problem with windows XP:
When i play movies (in mediaplayer, or another player),
it plays perfectly for some 3-5 minutes then it it plays
1 second of the movie veeeery fast, then it all comes
back to normal, until after another 3-5 minutes and so
on. I mention that i had this problem with different
hardware. Now i have an amd XP 1900+, 512 Ram DDR, 60G
hdd, Radeon 7500.
This problem does not affect me in windows ME or 98.

You might need to check if your DivX isn't ****ed up

I tried already

the problems are in all players that i tried (media player, microdvd player, bsplayer).
Also, divx isnt ****ed up, because the problem is also with .mpg movies.
Also, windows xp was installed many, and many times since first time i had this problem .
Strange, once it worked fine, so it must be some setting!!

A few worthwhile suggestions:
1. Check that you have got the motherboard driver installed, esp. the AGP driver
2. Upgrade your VGA card driver, in your case the latest Catalyst
3. Check that Hardware Acceleration is enabled (Display Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot)
4. Check that DMA has been enabled (Automatically enabled in WinXP, but it does not hurt to check)
5. Uninstall any 'funny' codecs that you might have inadvertently installed, but never need anyway

God, i did damn it. i tried all of this (((((((
U know, i had some time to fight this thing and nothing
Just when i thought it was impossible, my last reinstallation of xp worked! i coldn't believe it! i was in heaven lol.
Then it all came to an end when my hdd crashed, and i had to replace it . ok. so i did. and i reinstalled xp, and my little old problem was back .
Any other suggestions? i sure could use them because i hate encoding movies in xp and viewing them in Me

How about uninstalling the codecs (some of all), and reinstalling them + updating

PS: Try these 2, they're capable to play some files other players can't ===> GDivX , PowerDivX & check if you have right codecs with this one : GSpot

edit: Why don't you return to Win2000 Sp3, that's the OS that RULEZ @ the moment (only stable MS version 2)

What did you do prior to getting the same problem again? It is likely to be some sort of bad program or configuration running in the background.

I would suspect the problem to be audio related.

As a test you might try creating an audio less avi file. Load an avi file into virtualdub, select video->'direct stream copy' and audio->'no audio', save it as a new file, and try playing that.

khp> i didnt think of that yet i will try this as soon as i get home. my audio card is quite old (yamaha 724) and it could be causing some trouble
