    Wanted: Simple mpeg1(/2) cutting tool

    Hi there!

I have an AVerMedia TV card and am quite happy with it.
It supports recording in MPEG1 and MPEG2 format.
I am now searching for a very easy (freeware) programme to cut and crop the files, do remove ad-breaks and the like.
I have searched digital-digest and found and downloaded many great tools. But somehow, none does what I want:
Just a direct audio and video stream copy, without any conversion.
I like VirtualDub very much, but it does not support MPEG2 and I often do not need/want avi-conversion.
    Do you have any recommendations?
(I am using Win2000 but would have access to a WinXP and a WinME machine.)

    Thank you very much
    Jens

    Why not using TMPGenc -> "File" -> "MPEG_tools" -> "merge&cut".
But the disadvantage is that you have to get the full version of TMPGenc to "merge&cut" mpeg2-files without a day-limit.

      Hi Rincewind256,

Yeah, I had this program downloaded.
I have had the time to test it a bit more intense than before thanks to my web-server's downtime...
Well, it mostly does what I need.
My mistake at first was to trust the Wizard which is pretty useless for my specific needs, I think.
I will convert my mpeg2s if necessary to mpeg1 during the 30 day limit.
One problem is that I cannot edit one specific 1.3GB file, where the video track is "bad". It plays okay, however.

Your tip with the cut/merge is good, but if you want to crop (remove add breaks) it is quite tedious, as you have to merge several cut bits.
Still, I think it is much faster than using the "source range" option.

      Thanks
      Jens
