A "must have" download for anyone who wants to tamper with the audio portion of their video files. It's called Audacity, and was recently released by a team at SourceForge.
Within a half hour of installing it, I was turning mono into stereo, making tonal changes, making soundtracks move back and forth across my screen, and lots more.
I can't say that this program is any easier than any paid-for editor because I never used one. What I can say is that it is quite good, quite easy, and quite free (GPL).
And this is not an ad for it. I had no part in it. I just like what these folks gave me.
