No Audio - which codec do i download, and where?

I have been downloading .avi files off imesh for months now - and today I had my first ever problem.

I'm not too technically minded so please bear with me

When I play the avi file I get picture, but no sound.

I downloaded a whole bunch off codecs off a help file i found at imesh support and it worked, but since I installed these codecs ALL my movies are now out of sync in terms of audio and video, the video is always about 5 seconds behind.

I thought this might be because my system was overloaded so I uninstalled the pack and it's ok again now... but i'm still at square one, I can't for the life of me figure out which codec I should download to get this damn file to work!

I know it was using something called "Morgan stream switcher" but when I downloaded the Morgan Stream switcher from the official site, there was still no audio... so i'm at my wits end.

I don't want to install a bunch of codecs again because it might overload my system again, I just want the particular codec that will let me watch this film.

I have the latest DivX codecs so i'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with that.

I tried opening the file in VirtualDub and again the audio didn't work, under file information I get the following:

    Sampling Rate: 48000
    Channels: 5 (Stereo)
    Sample Precision: 0-bit
    Compression: Unknown (tag 2000)
    Preload skew: 28000 samples (0.58s)
    #of frames: 103583

If anybody can help me in any way, I will be eternally grateful. I'm not at all familiar with techy terms so please go easy on me!!

    Thanking you in advance

Hey thanks for the great reply I'll let you know if it works.

Also, i'm interested to know where I could download the DivX3 low-motion codec... as my system reports i've not got that installed when I open the file in gspot..

      Any help?

Well the audio worked, but now the video is really choppy and even more out of sync

I think i'm just going to try and download another version!

        Thanks for your advice anyway
