Pal 625 lines where do they get this???

When you have a Pal signal I think it is 768x576 and a NTSC is 768x480, but when looking at TMPEnc it says: "4:3 625 Lines Pal" I have seen about 625 before but I have no idea of what it means, perhaps anyone could help me out her???

I'd suggest that you do a Google search for "television scanlines"...
